Applying to the LDP
Am I a good candidate for the LDP?
LDP admissions decisions are made by LDP staff, and students who are admitted to the LDP are informed personally by the program director. Before you apply to the LDP, we encourage you to consider:
- Am I willing to communicate, clearly and openly, about my academic progress and grades?
- Can I commit to consistently attending twice-weekly scheduled LDP sessions?
- Am I interested in learning more about myself as a student?
- Can I integrate feedback and engage in collaborative problem-solving?
- Am I open to identifying areas for academic growth and to setting goals?
- Can I demonstrate flexibility, adapting my approach as needed?
- Do I value meaningful professional relationships?
LDP Application Process
The Learning Disabilities Program (LDP) offers placement to a limited number of students; not every student who applies is accepted. Application to the LDP includes a written application and interview:
- The LDP application can be found here: Click here to download the LDP application.
- Once their LDP application is received, students will be offered a one-on-one interview with LDP staff.
- Students who are admitted to the LDP are informed personally by the program director.
Please note: To be considered for the Learning Disabilities Program (LDP), students must first be admitted to Northeastern University. Please refer to the admissions website for information regarding the University application process. Application to the LDP is separate from the University’s admissions process, and the LDP does not contribute to Northeastern admissions decisions.
- First-year and transfer applicants: First-year and transfer applicants to Northeastern are welcome to submit their LDP applications at any time, please know that we will not act on your LDP application until you receive your decision from Northeastern’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
- Early Decision applicants: Students applying Early Decision to Northeastern are encouraged to contact the LDP directly to discuss their LDP application timeline.
- NUin students: The LDP offers an in-person model of academic support to a small number of undergraduate students on the Boston campus; NUin students are invited to submit an LDP application for the spring term. Please see DAS Global Resources for supports available on the NUin campuses.
- London, Oakland, and NYC Scholars: Accommodations and other disability-related support is available on all Northeastern campuses, including Oakland, London, and NYC. Please see DAS Global Resources for supports available on the first-year campuses. Scholars may submit an application to the LDP for their second year, when they will be taking courses on the Boston campus.
- Current Northeastern Boston students: please contact the program directly for admissions timelines. Students are admitted to the LDP for the start of the fall or spring semester.
Should you have any questions about the LDP application process, please contact Jennifer Newton, Director, at j.newton@northeastern.edu or 617.373.4526.
Documentation and Accommodations
At Northeastern, documentation of a learning disability and/or attention deficit disorder generally consists of students’ most recent psycho-educational or neuropsychological evaluation. It may also include students’ IEP or 504 plans from high school, other relevant history of services and accommodations, and students’ self-report of their experience. Appropriate documentation reflects students’ historical and current level of functioning, describes the substantial impact(s)/limitation(s) that students experience due to their disability, and includes a diagnostic statement. There is no charge for accommodations. Please refer to Getting Started – Disability Access Services for more information about documentation and accommodations.
Learning Disabilities Program (LDP) staff work with Disability Access Services (DAS) to determine reasonable accommodations for students in the LDP.
